Happy Saturday! Here is your weekly dose of the world of Miles.
A Lecture on Fun. Are you having enough fun? If not, make sure to add to your task list to watch this TED talk. Catherine Price, a friend from college and now author, breaks down fun into its core elements of playfulness, connection & flow. All joking aside, I’ve benefited from bringing more play into my work life. One of the gifts of having kids is reminding me to play more. I’m making that a priority this weekend and I hope you are, too. (If you need inspiration, you can consult the play styles list from the Conscious Leadership Group.)
Virtue Club. Ben Franklin famously had his virtue checklist. I’m curious if he also had a virtue club. Was his Junto Club also a place to discuss how to live a more virtuous life? What are secular examples of people coming together to encourage each other to live more morally? (BTW, I’m trying an updated version of Franklin’s virtue list from Marshall Goldsmith. Join me.).
Finish What You Start. That might sound like I’m extolling the virtue of follow through. Rather I’m suggesting that you read this illustrated introduction to why you should limit work in progress. If you’re unfamiliar with Lean or TOC, you’ll learn a lot.
Until next week,
Miles
