Professionally, I focus on creating social benefit startups. In my Saturday morning emails I share what I’m learning and thinking. Topics range from better living and parenting to business and philosophy.
100 Times an Hour. A friend of mine was recently asked if using AI (LLMs) at work was “cheating.” His answer? You should be using them as much as they help. But is that lingering guilt about “doing the work yourself” stopping you from embracing new technology? Another friend now uses a custom GPT to handle email responses, and a VC just published a blog claiming to use AI 100 times an hour (though I suspect every email transcription and cleanup counts twice). The future is not evenly distributed, and many are only dabbling with LLMs while others fully dive in. Are you ready to take the leap? Here is when to use AI.
287 Recurring To Do’s. While I’ve mentioned recurring To Do’s before, perhaps it is time to do it again. (See what I did there?) My to-do app handles them seamlessly, even managing overdue tasks without disrupting the original schedule. I rely on it daily: for personal habits, weekly work reminders like reports and dashboards, and weekly planning for goals, reviews, and writing this email. Monthly, it keeps me on track with personal finances. And for less frequent tasks, it nudges me about home maintenance and birthday prep. How do you stay organized with recurring tasks in your life?
Year End Giving. Considering end of year philanthropic gifting? Here’s my gift guide. Check out Giving Multiplier if you could find it appealing to be meta effective. If you want to be effective, follow Givewell recommendations or maybe the Copenhagen Consensus. (BTW, what’s the best way to donate money to support high-skilled migration?) I recently learned about Global Giving. Let me know what you think of it. Or give my personal favorite, you can give to Curious Learning where I’m on the board.
Until next time,
Miles
P.S. I’m gathering local folks to understand housing policy better and get engaged. Please spread the word: New Haven Housing Curiosity into Action.
