Professionally, I focus on creating social benefit startups. In my Saturday morning emails I share what I’m learning and thinking. Topics range from better living and parenting to business and philosophy.
Venture Wishlist. At Purpose Built, we worked as a team and with founders to come up with 2,500+ ideas. Yes, that’s a lot more since we wrote about how we generate startup ideas. We also frequently talk to venture capitalists about what kinds of companies they are interested in funding. We thought it would be great to share more of these conversations to drive innovation forward. If you’re curious to see into the mind of VCs or if you’re looking for a project to work on, check it. The Good Life. What’s the key to comedy? Timing. What’s the key to a “good life”? Relationships. More specifically those relationships are nurtured by saying the four things that matter most (“Please forgive me,” “I forgive you,” “Thank you,” and “I love you”) to the key people in our lives. And also, a good life is avoiding the five big regrets by being yourself, avoiding overwork, expressing feelings, staying in touch with friends and letting yourself be happier. I've been thinking a lot about these principles recently.
The Way Forward. 34% of voters in this US election were self-described independents. In a two-party system, more than a third of voters are saying none of the above. Congress has a reelection rate of over 90% even though its approval rating is in the teens. Perhaps it is time to change the system? I’m for rank choice voting, open primaries and independent redistricting commissions. The Forward Party is pushing for these reforms. Who else is?
Until next time,
Miles
