Professionally, I focus on creating social benefit startups. In my Saturday morning emails I share what I’m learning and thinking. Topics range from better living and parenting to business and philosophy.
Visions of the Future. It is said the best way to predict the future is to create it. Rob Spiro (the founder of Imagination Machine) writes in his newsletter that a Green Vortex is preferable to Screens & Convenience, AI Control or Code as Freedom. Or are we more likely to have a Great Stagnation ala Tyler Cowen. Is anyone still talking about The Singularity is Near as AI keeps getting more powerful?
Organizational Speed. A friend says that founders exist to create new bureaucracy. A bit of a joke that independent-minded speed-driven founders will end-up creating a bureaucratic organization if their company grows successfully. Is there any way to avoid organizations slowing down as they grow? A Clearer Thinking podcast lists many of the causes which suggest their own solutions. Spotify, Amazon and Upstart offer examples of organization design to attempt to keep speed high in larger organizations. I’m fascinated by Teal organizations as another answer. Some think you should bring markets internally to the organization. Have you see that work well? For a more comprehensive treatment of the subject, I recommend Humanocracy.
Open Market Maps. Love the concept of open market maps for a given business / startup area. Do you know of any more efforts like this?
Until next week,
