Happy Saturday! Here is your weekly dose of techno-optimism, startup thoughts and ways to improve the world.
Evaporating Clouds and Corkscrew Solutions. Two weeks ago, I suggested that Theory of Constraints can help you think more clearly. Is that the general benefit you gain from learning new things? No, I meant a set of thinking tools. The book Corkscrew Solutions offers an introduction to TOC’s evaporating clouds. It is worth adding to your mental toolbelt.
Learning Creativity. I was a guest at a Yale class on creativity. We discussed the creative process for a founder and how to systematize it. We talked about when to introduce constraints like economic feasibility. We touched on what you can learn from improv. And loyal readers will remember that I'm fascinated by the connection between creativity and habit. Now it is your turn. What is the best piece you’ve read on fostering creativity?
Platforms and Power. I’m a fan of the Acquired podcast and the book 7 Powers. What’s better than an Acquired episode with the author of 7 Powers? The episode was a reminder that to build a great enduring company, you must have two independent insights. The first is creating something people want (aka product market fit). The second is creating power (aka a sustainable competitive advantage).
Until next week,
