Professionally, I focus on creating social benefit startups. In my Saturday morning emails I share what I’m learning and thinking. Topics range from better living and parenting to business and philosophy.
I got a note from a reader: “Thank you so much for the recommendation of 80/80 Marriage book in your newsletter! I just finished it and there is so much actionable stuff for our marriage. It's the most valuable life book I can remember reading in a long time.” Wow - that is so motivating to keep sharing things with you.
Curious Learning in 2022. I’m on the board of tech nonprofit Curious Learning curates & localizes and distributes free, open-source apps that empower everyone to have the opportunity to learn to read. (If you want a refresher on the definition of “tech nonprofit” check out the most recent Startups for Good podcast.) Curious Learning published their 2022 year in review. With 3.5+ million downloads in 227 countries and territories in the world, the opportunity for scale is massive. Do you know a family foundation who would fund this? Send them this doc and introduce them to me.
Helpful Delusions? The truth is important. Having true beliefs (or better yet good explanations) about the external environment helps you achieve your goals. Helping others to find the truth is noble. And lying to others is bad. But what about self-delusion? Could it be helpful to change your beliefs about yourself to suit the situation? If we lie to ourselves often anyway why not harness it for our goals? Particularly in areas of mental health, business, and relationships where your beliefs can become self-fulfilling.
What’s Your Problem? For creativity, I’m still a fan of Ideaflow and The Creative Habit. But before you start generating options, make sure you’re solving the most important problem. To hone your reframing skills, What’s Your Problem is a quick read and contains lots of helpful checklists. Let me know what you think and how it helps you.
Until next week,
Miles
