Welcome back to the newsletter!
Professionally, I focus on creating social benefit startups. In my Saturday morning emails I share what I’m learning and thinking. Topics range from better living and parenting to business and philosophy.
I’m kicking back off with some personal news.
Twill. I’ve joined the board of directors of Twill as part of Purpose Built’s investment. Twill allows top talent to earn $5-25k for recommending their friends and peers for open jobs. In turn, companies hire better and faster. Twill connects 750+ members with clients like VC-backed companies and world-class tech companies like Google. If you have a network of qualified folks in the tech industry, you can apply to join Twill. If you think Twill might be of interest for hiring for your company, we'd love to hear from you.
Recent Books. I’ve re-read some favorite books including those from David Deutsch and Robert Caro. As a result, I’ve read fewer new books this year. New ones that have stuck with me include Build Baby Build (is there a trillion dollar bill lying around?), The Infernal Machine (he is such a great story teller! Plus I learned a lot about anarchy as a political movement) and Politics is for Power (why and how to come off the sidelines).
Personal Ethics? At the end of last year I read Ethics for the Real World. A challenging book (not to read but to absorb and act on) based on a college course, it inspired me to write my own personal ethics statement. The authors recommend prohibitions against lying, stealing and harming. They argue you should have few to no positive exhortations. I recommend the book although it may not say enough about all the moral foundations. Let me know if you want to compare notes on your personal ethical code.
P.S. What are your favorite topics from previous newsletters? Please reply to this email and let me know. Thanks!
Until next time,
